It has become increasingly difficult to differentiate certain search results on the web from being legitimate points of contact or a possible scam. Often times ads appear that mimic the actually website that was intended to access. A few examples we have seen lately include:
Search results for “Facebook login”
The top result brings you to an infected Facebook page that automatically transfers to a page with warnings to call a number stating the PC is infected.
Search results for “QuickBooks Support”
Has ads that appear to be QuickBooks, but are alternative sites that are not Intuit, the maker of QuickBooks software.
Good measure to help avoid going to the incorrect site:
Never click on the Ads in the search results.
Check the URL address at the top of the browser, and verify you are on the correct site.
If you know your desired website type out the address ex: www.facebook.com, instead of doing a search for Facebook login.
